LIBERTY DONUTS

Drove past this guy on a road trip through a little city called Twentynine Palms in Southern California a couple weeks ago. He was touting this killer wardrobe, promoting a Liberty Tax office. Part-time gig, after-school-human-sandwich-board kinda thing.

When I pulled over to ask him if I could take his picture,  he asked "why?!" I told him "I'm from Canada and this isn't something I see every day. I mean, a teenager dressed up as the Statue of Liberty, waving American flags." He stood awkwardly sweet and grinned. A little nervous but seemingly intrigued by the idea of being interesting to a random stranger-girl.

As I turned towards my bag to grab a cloth to clean my lens, I noticed the abandoned donut shop behind us. "Hey, you mind standing over here instead?" I asked. He blurted "YOU JUST WANT ME BESIDE THE JELLY DONUT SIGN!!" I said, "it's awesome and YES I do!!" with nerdy photographers' excitement. He shrugged his shoulders and said "That's cool. I get it" and smirked one more time for my lens.

Amazingly, secure, cliché.

Stellar kid.
